Guarantee
When you specify Coilcolor products you get materials that really perform. Strong substrates and state of the art coating technology lead to exceptionally long lifetimes, while exclusive finishes keep your building looking its best for many years. And, of course, they’re backed up with one of the most comprehensive guarantees on the market.
XPS – full cover
The XPS guarantee from Coilcolor offers unrivalled protection for your building for up to thirty years – protection that applies across the whole range of installation types, in all environments:
- Any roof pitch – the guarantee covers orientations of down to 1 degree.
- Any orientation – positioning of the building does not affect the length of the guarantee.
- All factory cut edges are covered for the lifetime of the guarantee.
- No annual inspections.
- Marine environments do not affect the guarantee, unless within 1km of the sea.
XPS - straightforward
The full cover of the XPS guarantee makes it easy to calculate the length of the guarantee period for your building as a whole, without the need for separate calculations for each orientation.
The XPS coating on your building will be in one of two colour groups, according to its performance. Note that there are no reductions in the length of the guarantee depending on pitch or orientation: see zone 1 and 2 tables.
Note: The marine/coastal table is only for structures nearer than 1 km to any coast or lake shore facing between SW and SE. No orientation limitations.
Flashings should be calculated at the same period as an orientation of that colour group.
‘Time before refinish’ begins on the date of the material’s manufacture by Coilcolor.
XPS - the terms of the guarantee
Coilcolor products are designed to last for many years without the need for maintenance, so the building owner’s obligations are few, being confined to registering the guarantee and generally treating the material in a responsible manner.
- The XPS guarantee is issued to the building owner, who should register the guarantee with Coilcolor. To register contact us on +44 (0) 1633 254 382
- Should the ownership of the building change, the guarantee is automatically transferred with it. The new owner should notify Coilcolor of the new ownership details in due course.
- There are no obligations under the guarantee for annual maintenance and inspection. However, Coilcolor recommends that roof and wall sheeting be washed annually to maintain its colour finish.
- Coilcolor must be informed by the guarantee holder within 30 days of the discovery of any defect that indicates that the product will fail to meet its performance criteria as outlined in the tables over, and in any event before 10% of the paint surface of any one plane is affected. Coilcolor or its agents must be given reasonable opportunity to inspect the defect. Notification must include any details required by Coilcolor or its agents to enable traceability of data relating to the materials involved.
The guarantee
Coilcolor guarantees that the Coilcolor XPS coating applied to hot dipped galvanised steel or equivalent zinc-aluminium coated substrates and used in Great Britain or Ireland will perform to the levels shown in the time scales published here, or to a time scale that is current when the Coilcolor XPS coating is applied to the hot dipped galvanised coil, subject to the terms defined here.
If the product does not perform to these criteria, Coilcolor will restore the affected materials according to the terms set out here.
Limitations
- The Guarantee applies only to the weather side of the Coilcolor XPS coating. Corrosion and defects arising from pollutants trapped within overlaps, abnormal atmospheric pollution, or contact with aggressive fumes or chemicals are excluded.
- Coilcolor’s obligation under the Guarantee is limited exclusively to the costs of labour and material (including the cost of any hire of equipment previously agreed by Coilcolor) to restore the defective wall or roof slope so that it meets its original guarantee period. It will be at Coilcolor’s sole discretion to determine the appropriate measures required for suitable restoration. Any other direct, indirect or consequential losses are excluded.
- This Guarantee will apply in preference to, and to the exclusion of, all other warranties or guarantees in respect of the Coilcolor XPS coating, express or implied.
Conditions
- The Guarantee applies only to materials used in accordance with Coilcolor’s guidelines as published at the date of construction.
- This Guarantee is subject to English Law and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
- All goods must be paid for in full before the Guarantee becomes effective.
- The building must be registered to validate the Guarantee.
The guarantee does not cover:
- Damage due to fire, lightning, flood, explosion, abnormal winds, earthquake, acts of war, riots, civil commotion, radiation, falling objects, vandalism and other extraneous causes.
- Damage or failure due to misuse, or wilful negligence.
- Damage to the sheets during manufacture, storage, transport or erection.
- Accumulation of dirt and debris on areas not exposed to washing by rainfall, unless the maintenance records clearly state that these areas have been washed at least annually.
- Ponding on roofs and inadequately sealed overlaps which allow the retention of water and other contaminants.
- Damage from emissions of harmful gases, fumes or chemicals from either natural or manmade sources at or within 400m of the original erection site.
- Damage due to exposure to temperatures of over 60ºC, however caused.
- Damage from the use of fasteners.
- Deterioration caused by contact with wet, green or treated timber or due to direct or indirect contact with corrosive materials.
- Any alteration of modification to the Coilcolor XPS coating whether before, during or after erection.
- The performance of any paint used on the panels before, during or after erection.
- The manner of storage or transportation of the product before erection causing the Coilcolor XPS coating to deteriorate.

- Figures under the Coastal heading are for buildings within 1km of any coast.
- The Coilcolor Guarantee Period begins from the date the material is delivered to the site, but not more than 18 months after manufacture.
- Because the surfaces of flashings can emulate roofs, walls or both, their durability is determined by the function they perform. If a single flashing emulates both a roof and a wall, the entire flashing is assumed to have the durability of a roof. To achieve the best performance, both the design of flashings and their application to the building should follow Coilcolor recommendations. In particular, all longitudinal cut edges should be welted or lock rolled.
- Soffits are excluded.
- For Guarantees on colours not shown in the table above, please contact Coilcolor.
- The Coilcolor XPS Guarantee is not applicable to metallic finish plastisols in roof applications.
- The full terms and conditions of the Coilcolor Guarantee are on the reverse side of the registration form.
